Long time no HEALTH posts, yeah? I thought I’d share one of my favourite post-workout breakfast recipes with you and I truly believe this Protein Shake is the best I’ve ever made and tried for many reasons. One – it’s the most delicious thing on earth and makes your body and mind even more happier after the morning workout. And two – it’s full of nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, good fats and protein to set you off for the day in the right way. Read on…
I recently picked up the new Deliciously Ella book in Costco out of all the places and since I already love her Instagram feed, I thought why not… At least for some pretty pictures’ inspiration, but after reading it and looking through most of her recipes I must admit, it’s an amazing lifestyle to live and a very difficult one to adapt I think. I’m absolutely in love with all her breakfast recipes like overnight post and smoothies, although this protein shake is my own.
I always work out in the morning, because if I don’t do get it out of the way there’s no chance of you seeing me in the gym at night, although it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go for a quick run or a yoga class at night after all the work in front of the computer screen. That would be nice, but for now lets talk about my protein shake that keeps me full for most of the day after the workout whilst repairing muscles and nurturing my body. I can’t stand protein shakes on their own with milk or water, but adore them blended with other ingredients like a smoothie if you like and just recently, I’ve found the most perfect superfood ingredients that not only taste delicious, but also keep my tummy happy without bloating it like most shakes do (me anyway).
So here’s how what you need for your blender:
- 1 scoop of Vanilla Shake (choose the one suits you best)
- 1 teaspoon of Almond Butter
- 1 handful of Blueberries
- 1 cup (approx.) of Chilled Coconut Milk (or add ice)
Blend all the ingredients in your blender for 1-2 minutes and Voila! It literally is like having a dessert for breakfast, only this is filled with goodness.
Did you know that blueberries ward off heart disease, lower cholesterol, they are low in calories, help protect against cancer and ageing, they improve memory and brain function, and blueberries have the highest capacity of antioxidants than all the fruit and veg put together? Imagine a handful of those every morning on their own or in this super protein shake?
My almond butter is full of omega 3 fatty acids and every single calorie of it turns in to nutrients. Just one teaspoon a day gives me 25% of my daily requirement of Vitamin E and contains enough protein I won’t need to eat any meat night. Amazing, right? I sometimes mix it up and add coconut oil instead, but cashew butter or peanut butter are just as great. Oh and I don’t have a shake every day – I eat other things for breakfast too, but this is the best for after working out.
My scoop of Vanilla protein shake powder is packed with a cocktail of other vitamins, protein and fibre so even if I don’t get to have a meal until dinner time, my body is still happily nurtured with all it needs until dinner. It’s quick and easy to make, so tasty and really is the best thing for ya!
So what you do you think? Will you try to make one soon? 😉
