When you get the cutest Summer dress from one of your favourite brands and it’s all kinds of perfect. For years now, whenever I collaborate with a fashion brand I think ahead, before the item arrives even, for the most perfect location to shoot it, or a real-life situation. So it’s not all completely staged, you know? Though the staged only-dressed-up-for-the-shoot kinda photographs are also fun, I still like to make it more relevant for you guys as well. Like date night looks, stay at home cosy looks, picnic looks and my other favourite – gym gear!
As soon as this dress arrived I knew exactly what I was going to do with it creatively. Sasha and her little cousin discovered this wheat field behind the woods in the back of the house and so I instantly knew… I realise that this isn’t much of a relatable situation as such, as I don’t imagine any of you heading to the field in a new dress for no reason. But I did envisage a cute blanket, picnic basket, baguettes and Rose bottle kinda mood for this. The reality is that we only had 20 mins as Sasha played with Leon on the trampoline and we were surrounded by insects and a jaggy fence. If I had time to organise all the “props”, the truth is that we wouldn’t be able to actually enjoy the picnic. You know – pushed for time and insects… plus we were in someone else’s private fenced field and the walk through the woods back to our house isn’t exactly the most pleasant. Lets just say I’m glad I wore trainers and a hoodie heading back, because we hear ticks wouldn’t miss an opportunity to choose humans as their new hosts. Yuk.
So yeah, I sacrificed on a serious creative picnic opportunity and images would have turned out amazing, but you know what? Lets keep it real. I wore the dress at home and in the garden afterwards minus the hat and planning on wearing it out of course. Maybe a little coffee date with a friend soon or better a holiday… Perhaps a little picnic at home in the garden later in the coming weeks weather permitting, but for now – we’re just keeping it real. We’re busy, we’re parents, but we like finding little pockets of time to be creative too. Sometimes the little details are all about simplicity. The ease of it all…
How are you all? How’s the new norm? Everyone working more now? Anyone gone through any major changes post lockdown? What’s changed? Tell tell tell…
