Glasgow is known for its great shopping, food and night life. Everyone works so hard all week, it’s only natural that weekends are left free to unwind, usually starting from Friday. There are things to do for everyone for all ages and kids are usually welcome in most places too. Glasgow’s great for that. One of our favourite things to do at weekends (and sometimes during the week) with my daughter is visiting Silverburn Shopping Centre but I think I’ve already told you that before a few times. Sasha-Kate could live there just to have sushi every day and I would be probably found in Zara or TK Maxx covered in shoes and piles of clothes. What can you do – we’re girls.
Summer Food Fest at Silverburn Shopping Centre
Last Friday we were invited by the lovely folks at Silverburn to try out some delicious food at Wagamama as part of the Summer Food Fest and we just couldn’t say no. Wagamama’s is another one of our favourite restaurants where we’re always so well looked after by the friendly staff. I’m telling you they all know us now. Kids meals are super healthy and we just love their freshly squeezed fruit juices. So much colour and flavour on our plates… Their Summer menu looked amazing and we will be trying that out this weekend as the centre’s still host to the Summer Food Fest until the 15th of August. Read on.
Wagamama, as well as many other restaurants and cafes are offering some really fantastic deals and discounts during the festival. Kids eat for free at Carluccio’s, Frankie and Benny’s and Bella Italia, Nando’s are giving away free soft drinks, and many are offering upto 30% off their food and even free desserts. Best way to keep informed is via their app, which you can download HERE (just choose apple or Android). There are prizes to be won and freebies to receive (free Ice Cream anyone?), so if you’re in Glasgow make sure to make use of Summer Food Fest via the app as it’s where you’ll get all the offers during the Summer Food Fest until 14th of August. No doubt you’ll bump into us somewhere… probably eating or buying shoes… Yep, this patent block heel pair (pics above) was bought last Friday. We are girls at the end of the day…
We ate, we shopped, we had chocolate dipped strawberries at Silverburn and if that wasn’t enough, we headed into City Centre for Hutcheson’s £1 Oyster Happy Hour with Mocktails.
Hutcheson’s “The 158 Champagne and Oyster Bar” – Glasgow
I mean Oyster Happy Hour isn’t really for children is it? You can ask Sasha-Kate later what she thinks about oysters, but boy does she love a Mocktail and Spanish olives… She had a Strawberry and Elderflower Smash and even ” helped” me drink my Pomegrante Punch too, which was delicious by the way. Hutcheson’s is by far my most favourite place in town from exterior, to interior, to food, cocktails and of course the lovely owners Louise and James Rusk who actually just picked up a “Best Restaurant” award at Glasgow’s Retail Business Awards. Congratulations – well deserved!
The £1 Oyster Happy Hour is on Fridays between 5-7pm and is perfect for pre-dinner or post-shopping drinks to celebrate the end of the hard working week in style. The atmosphere in The 158 Bar is so relaxed yet intimate enough for a romantic date or in fact a gossipy girly catch-up, and when it’s sunny, everyone is usually sat outside sipping on Vevue Clicquot in their sunnies, which really glams up the city and I love Hutchesons for that. Also glad we got the marble table that day – very photogenic!
The service is out of this world and the staff looked after Sasha and I so well. Although we love going to Hutchesons’ for drinks without Sasha when we’re able to, it was lovely bringing her with me this time.
It was the most perfect end to our girly afternoon of shopping, food and mocktails and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
I hope this post gives you some ideas on what to do in Glasgow this Summer and also what Sasha and I get up to some weekends. Perhaps you would like to treat your mum, sister, daughter of friends to a lovely day of shopping, lunch and cocktails this month? One thing for sure – they’ll love this!
Special thanks to Silverburn and Hutchesons for such a lovely day and to Sasha for being my outfit photographer and the best little munchkin ever! 😉
