Summer…. Oh how tricky you can be in Glasgow…
Most of my fans call me crazy for baring the legs but come on girls, it’s not that bad – jeans can wait till Autumn. I admit, it can be challenging dressing for the Scottish Summer because we all want to be part of the trendy summer fashion but there’s always that “what if it snows later in the afternoon” in the back of our minds isn’t there? Worry no more, because there’s a very smart, always trendy and super chic solution to our summer wardrobe situation – denim! I mean even if it rains and you’re running after a cab in denim hot pants and denim jacket you won’t look as ridiculous as you would have in a soaking wet sheer or lace summer dress, right? Denim’s cool and frayed denim this season is even cooler!
I was so excited to shoot this look after an exciting couple of hours of shopping at one of my favourite Glasgow Shopping Centres – Buchanan Galleries. You may remember me talk about Buchanan Galleries in this post here a couple of months ago when my mum and I had such an amazing day at the centre shopping with make-overs and treating ourselves to some bubbly afternoon tea. I very much prefer the traditional “shop till you drop” kind of shopping to online kind. I love chatting with the assistants about the items that are popular in Glasgow and simply trying stuff on before I buy. Things like making sure that the denim actually feels like real denim and not some sort of super thin blue fabric that’s made to look like denim – not quite so guaranteed when shopping online. But yeah, who does denim better than Levi’s? As soon as I walked in to the Levi’s store in Buchanan Galleries I lay my eye on these frayed pretties and after trying them on I didn’t want to take them off and at only £45 per pair (in store only) – why would anybody want take them off? Too cold I hear you say? Wear a pair of tights under or over the knee socks (or boots), seriously!
Right across from Levi’s is located my other favourite store MANGO, which had almost everything in sale that day – bingo! Lots of gorgeous seventies flares, flowy tops and tassels there, but it’s this frayed denim jacket that I was after and at £30 it was in the bag along with this amazing ethnic pom pom/tassel clutch bag. Hiya Summer!
So, frayed denim – check, ethnic print, tassels and pom poms – check, all I needed was some hot gladiator caged heels and an off-shoulder top to complete my Scottish Summer denim look and luckily there’s River Island just next door to MANGO. Strrrrraight to the shoe section at the back and because it’s Summer, I refused myself to look at anything black and silver. Why not silver? I love silver jewellery and always prefer silver buckles and shoe clasps to gold mainly because I think it goes better with my complexion, but then these suede and leather dark beige River Island caged sandals with the gold trim caught my eye and I got all excited about completing my look with some serious golden bling from JoY. This off-shoulder top from River Island is so gorgeous, right on trend and is ideal for wearing with chunky or delicate jewellery, plus it’s 3/4 length baggy sleeve is perfect for our kind of breezy summers.
What Summer denim pieces are you loving right now? Do you ever take denim with you on holidays? I mean it weighs way more than anything else, so it’d be interesting to know as I always bring a pair of denim cut-offs abroad and almost never wear them, but in Scotland they are just perfect!
I’ll be off somewhere nice for a weekend in July actually and I’m coming back to Buchanan Galleries to pick up my weekend away essentials there, but would love to find out what you guys take with you for your weekends away? Any tips are welcome…
Have a good week everyone and don’t be scared to bare the legs!
