July 3, 2018

Well… step into my NEW office! Not fully furnished as I’m eagerly waiting for my dusty rose loveseat from Sofa.com to arrive, but still. Welcome. The sofa will go under those three prints where all my rattan and wire accessories are at the moment and it’s going to look shamaaaazing! I’ll be sure to tell / show you right away. This gorgeous room is right beside the walk-in wardrobe and is supposed to be our spare room, but you know me – why waste the space? I am being laughed at by my family for “taking up the entire house”, but rest assured guests, your stay will be made very comfortable and cosy for you at ours. Somewhere. Ha!

I never really have any rules when it comes to interior decorating or in fact, I don’t actually know what I’m fully doing most of the time. I do love it though when things come together perfectly, just the way I like it. Since I don’t follow any rules, there are a couple of things that I discovered are vital for creating the right space and atmosphere in your chosen room. Read on as I share them below…

COLOURS.

Settling on the wall colour alone can be really daunting as there are SO MANY shades of grey (literally) with tons of variations of those shades in different stores. Just to make it a bit harder for you to choose, why else? I knew I wanted this room to be grey as most of the house wall colours are already grey. It’s so neutral, matches the carpet perfectly and will complement pretty much all the hardware too. No brainer.

But where did the pink pairing come from? Me? Pink? Obviously there are very subtle hints of it in here now, but when the sofa arrives it’ll be a whole new office. Perhaps even a little coffee table could join the party with time? Anyway, back to the colours. It all started when I was browsing my favourite site for prints and frames at DESENIO and stumbled across these cool geometric posters with hints of pink, gold and grey. From then on I instantly knew I wanted grey walls and lots of soft pink accents with flowers, cushions and so on. Never been a pink kind of girl but welcomed this combination with open arms. Rose gold accessories I have in the room at the moment work really well with the wooden effects and woven chair I think. It’s all about sticking to your favourite tones and although silver metals would probably look lovely as well, I’m choosing to stay away from them and go for black instead.

By the way, DESENIO are offering 25% OFF their posters for you guys if you use code LAFOTKA25.
Valid off posters between July 3rd and 5th (except on frames and on handpicked-/collaboration posters).

GO GO GO – great deal to miss! Check DESENIO out!

BE UNCONVENTIONAL.

Dare I say it, but I’m so over Ikea and it’s furniture. I still like a visit to pick up some plants, grab some meatballs, kitchen utensils and so on, but furniture? It’s way too overpriced lately. I considered one of their desks for my office at the start of this project, but gave up when I found myself glued to the screen on Cult Furniture website. SO MANY stylish and AFFORDABLE pieces, I couldn’t believe it. Effie and I had love at first sight and I think it’s her fault for my new dusty pink obsession in this room. I then started searching for desks and must admit, this Molander Wooden home office desk was a serious contender. But my previous desk was tiny and I wanted alllll the room for my elbows and ended up choosing this dining table as a desk instead from their Cult Living collection. Hairpin legs are my favourite and the top is solid wood in walnut. Watch and learn Ikea! All at just over £200.

My “Belsize scoop back” Cult Living office chair. Again, only £69 and the quality is incomparable.

So lucky to be collaborating with Cult Furniture in this post / project, who have also kindly sent me this (also unconventional) table lamp (£35). I can’t stop smiling at how perfectly the lamp and the hairpin legs of the desk match.

And there you have it – my new office space is styled and I hope you enjoyed checking out PART ONE of the new working space. I wish I could give you tons of decorating tips, but hopefully my suggestions on a couple of unconventional decorating tips were useful. Remember to choose 2-3 colours with hardware and everything will take shape from there. Very excited to add in a mirror for the wall where I photographed my office chair (any suggestions by the way?), as well as my new sofa and probably a couple of other things. Stay tuned for PART TWO soon and if you have any tricks and tips on how you decorate your home – send them my way!

Hugs,
Tatyana x
