Secret little Stars - Instagram Health Blogger1Instagram… It’s so easy to just take a quick picture of my morning smoothies with my phone, upload them up on Social Media and completely forget about my precious little bloggie and YOU, my lovely readers – who may not even follow me on Instagram and have no idea I’m such a “semi-healthy” foodie! I’m sorry…

Last time my little Star and I updated our HEALTH section was when we were trying out our new Kenwood food mixer and have shared with you our very own flourless oat cookie recipe. Since then, we’ve baked and cooked so much fun stuff, but the problem is that we only remember about our DSLR half way through the cooking, which is why you’re seeing most of it on Instagram lately. But that’s no excuse. I promise to keep on sharing my new healthy finds (like this matcha powder) and new recipes with you more often, but first, I thought I’d start with a little post with my latest almost daily morning insta snaps of my “liquid breakfast” variations as my mum calls it…

I know that January’s always huge on health, diets, cleansers, new fitness routines, gym memberships and so on… But now that it’s nearly over, I felt this was a great time to show you a bunch of pretty pictures of healthy breakfasts you could take inspiration from, try a few recipes for yourself, adopt a few ideas and make this your own regular habit – not just January’s. When I say I’m a “semi-healthy foodie”, I mean I have a serious Secret little sweet tooth needing to be controlled every day, so there has to be a good balance of nutritional fruit, veg, chocolate and coffee for me in my diet, otherwise I binge out. If I want a little chocolate square at any point of the day, I’ll have it without restricting myself, because obviously my body needs it, right? Or at least that’s what I tell myself anyway…

So… Has January been all about health for me? Not any more healthier than any other months, to be honest. There were a few (too many perhaps) delicious hot chocolates in December of course, but we’ve still had one or two in January  – why not? What I’m trying to say here is –  find something that you really love and are comfortable to experiment with in the mornings and make it a habit – imagine there’s no more toast in the world until midday. I usually make smoothies with whatever fruit I have at home, and although it’s lovely to follow recipes and try out various fruit and veg combinations that will give us different boosts, in reality our fruit bowls and fridges are not like a fruit market – at least mine anyway.

There are usually 3 main ingredients in my smoothies:

1. Banana (fresh, frozen, green, ripe – they’ll all do)
2. Milk – 1 cup (prefer coconut or almond)
3. Protein shake powder  – 1 scoop of any flavour (my partner teaches fitness classes, so he’s always got some to steal from)

I throw all 3 in to my blender and you have a super quick nutritional breakfast, which is perfect to sip on on your way to work or just enjoy at home (like me). If I have other fruit and veg I feel like experimenting with, then I would normally leave the protein powder out, but you can get some extra protein by adding a teaspoon of almond or peanut butter for extra smoothness and flavour. I Leave the milk out if I’m having citrus or spinach in my smoothies, but if it’s on the thick side – add a bit of water, a drop of honey and you’re back on…

Another ingredient I always keep in my fridge is organic beetroot juice. It’s a fantastic antioxidant, it fights cancer properties, boosts  stamina and much more, plus adds a lovely bright pink colour to your smoothie, which is very nice for pictures as you can see above… Sprinkle with some chia seeds and oats for more health and prettiness!

I still drink lots of lemon, cucumber and fruit water while I work at home – it adds a bit of colour to the boring plain glass, tastes yummier and of course gives you vitamins throughout the day whilst hydrating you happily. We eat and drink with our eyes someone once said…

So lets make a little effort with our breakfasts, add a little sprinkle of love and colour and why not take a picture and share it with me while you’re at it using #SecretHealthyEater… Look forward to sharing more detailed recipes with you and step by step pictures soon!

I’d love to hear about your morning habits… Share Share Share!

Big Love x
