My hair story & meeting Sassoon.
Can you believe that last time I had my hair done was November? Shocking, I know, but I really needed to give my hair a break and grow it out of that awkward shoulder length and once I patiently did that, I was ready for a new, but subtle change and even a little trim with the best in the business – Sassoon Salons. If I was going to trust anyone to lighten my hair again, it would be Fraser, the Creative Colour Director at the Edinburgh Sassoon Salon. I knew I was in good hands after our initial consultation / chat last week during which I’d explained what I was after and Fraser explained what was realistically possible taking into consideration my hair colour, length and the condition of it. Basically, I got kind of bored with my dull brown hair and really wanted some more “movement” and texture with some lighter contrasting ends, but I was also wary of worsening the condition of it with ombre and balayage as I’ve had both in the past and ended up with really dry brassy ends. Luckily Fraser knew exactly what I meant and gave me the best solution for achieving that look whilst preserving the life of my hair. Read on…
The Colour at Sassoon Salons.
Balayage and good old-fashioned highlights have crossed my mind again, but keeping the base colour dark was important for me and I was so relieved there was an alternative, less damaging solution. Instead of focusing too much on the ends, Fraser suggested we lighten just a section of my hair on each side and do so intentionally uneven for a more natural blend with the darker root. He used a backcombing technique to achieve that – so smart and logical… You can see in the picture above those lighter sections developing in foils and my base with the darker colour up close. And in the pictures below you can see how it’s all blended in, looking very natural don’t you think? Much more striking, bolder and deeper than the “before” hairstyle if you can call it a hairstyle even.
It’s only been 2 days, but I already love having that inch of dry split ends off my length and can’t get enough of my blunt non-layered edges. My hair was cut by the lovely Daisy at the Edinburgh Sassoon Salon and just like Fraser, she knew exactly what I was after. My hair is poker straight naturally, so giving me layers would just make my hair look thinner than it is and I’m just glad we had an agreement on this one too. Daisy gives the best head massage by the way… Just Saying.
Sassoon Hair Care.
To lock all the colour in and protect my hair in the long run, I was given a Shine / For Ultimate Light Reflection treatment after my dark blonde ash toner was applied to the light sections. There are plenty of amazing treatments in Sassoon Salons and there’s one to suit everyone. We then used some thickening lift spray for my roots for the blow dry to give my hair some volume and this lovely smelling Miracle reshape heat lotion for heat protection and repositionable shape, which basically means it will hold the style and can be brushed through easily unlike the hairspray effect. I also got Sassoon’s NEW illuminating oil for use at home for further protection against damage and loss of protein. I heard it also makes your hair look super shiny too, so I can’t wait to start using that. The lovely team at Sassoon Edinburgh also gave me this little love heart shaped box with some after care Sassoon products to take home and I can’t wait to try them either. Too cute.
