LETS TALK ABOUT FOOD BABY

A couple of weeks ago I got invited to Blythswood Square Hotel to try out their new menu by the award-winning chef Zoltan Szabo in The Restaurant. And since Blythswood is already my favourite place in Glasgow, of course I said yes. I’ve stayed in the hotel before and therefore can guarantee that you’ll want to book a room just to enjoy their delicious breakfast in the morning. The lovely press team from Next have treated me to a delicious dinner at The Restaurant last year actually so I couldn’t wait to come back for more. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long but it was a perfect opportunity for my sister and I to catch up over some wine on a rainy day so we were indeed for a day “ladies who lunch”.

FOOD

The Restaurant is located on the ground floor and we were seated in a cosy corner by the window with the view of the entire restaurant. We ordered some white wine for a change (I usually love red) and couldn’t wait to check out the menu. We were given the market menu, which changes day by day depending on the ingredients chefs source and it looked simply divine. I love market menus as you get to try something exclusively new, delicious and certainly from the freshest ingredients that day.

For starters, I had Scottish Smoked Salmon and my sister loved her Jerusalem artichoke and thyme soup. For main course I ordered chicken with ginger and carrot puree, wild mushrooms and potato dauphinoise and boy it was GOOD. My sister had seabass and both of our dishes tasted even better with a side of roast vegetables and cauliflower gratin. Ladies who lunch a LOT.

Some of the noises coming from our table though… Sorry neighbours, the food was just sensational. We got a little surprise dish from the chef in-between our starters and main courses of “seared scallops and grilled sweetcorn” cooked and seasoned SO NICELY we both said we would eat another 5 of those dishes. Each!

What I’m about to say might shock you though (insert monkey covering her/his eyes emoji). We were too full for dessert! I feel like I betrayed myself, the chef, the restaurant, our neighbours and that white chocolate something that I know was destined to end up on this blog (and in my belly). Next time…

DRINKS & ATMOSPHERE

Since we were so full to do anything after so much delicious food, we decided to head up to The Salon – the sexy cocktail bar with Harris Tweed chairs (see pics). Our lovely waitress at The Restaurant brought our bottle of wine for us upstairs and it was exactly what we wanted as it was raining outside and we weren’t ready to leave the hotel yet. That’s what I love about Blythswood, you could literally spend your entire day there without having to leave the building whilst having the time of  your life. It must be heaven for travellers who have never visited Glasgow before as they get to make the most of the Hotel Spa (one of my favourite in Scotland), the bar, restaurant and of course their gorgeous rooms.

The atmosphere is always relaxed no matter the time of the day and the service is definitely exceptional. There were a lot of Afternoon Tea parties on the day we visited Blythswood and I’m so coming back for some of that.

Below are some shots I took in the hotel yesterday because I asked to come back to take some more pictures (there are never enough).  I really wanted to show you more of The Salon as well as Blythswood’s Christmas decorations that were being put up a few days after our initial visit. Worth the wait and again, the staff and everyone at the hotel were so nice – they’ll be seeing me there VERY often from now on.

WHAT I WORE

What to wear to a girly lunch in Glasgow in December? Well, in my opinion you still want to be warm, cosy and not too overdressed, so the best way to glam-up your look is with accessories and shoes. I’m wearing my new 7 For All Mankind black denim culottes here (from my friends at LABEL) with an oversized soft knit slightly tucked in a the front. Mainly to show off a bit of a silhouette and the waistline – it is a ladies lunch after all. The V-neck of the jumper adds that touch of “evening chic” here as you can show off your shoulder or delicate lace underwear and jewellery. Culottes are long enough allowing for bare legs and pumps for a day – no tights or heavy warm boots necessary. Finish off with a statement bag and Et Voila!
