GIRLY STAYCATION AT citizenM LONDON TOWER HILL
Last week was Sasha’s October school holidays and I decided to do something special with her. A girly staycation in London at citizenM (Tower of London), which is by far the coolest hotel we’ve ever stayed in and she’ll vouch for that. We planned some exciting things to do during the day like see The Buckingham Palace, visit Madame Tussaud’s, have dinner in China Town and many other fun things during the day. What we didn’t know is how close our hotel would be to the Tower Bridge Underground station, which is absolutely ideal for families with kids, girls (no walking on the streets at night) and any traveller with luggage or without really. The hotel is right next door to the Tower Hill station – literally next door!
Our flight to London was an early one, so we were pretty tired (but excited for our day ahead) and as soon as we walked in to the hotel, we instantly felt relaxed. The lounge is designed to make you feel at home and is filled with comfy sofas, welcoming book-shelves. Being welcomed by super friendly staff was even better. citizenM even complemented my shoes (see pic below), even thought they were just simple sneakers. We check in (using one of their check-in station macs) and went up to our room where we wanted to leave our bags and quickly change before we headed out in to the centre of London. Little did we know that our “quick change” would end up lasting over an hour – the room was SO cosy and the hotel was too interesting not to explore straight-away… Read on.
Although I’ve never stayed at citizenM before (mistake), I knew about their “new age” technological yet super friendly concept, but experiencing it was a completely different story. Lets just say that my experience was brought to me by Sasha via citizenM’s iPad where she adjusted the room lighting, blinds, curtains, heating, room mood, music, movies and our alarm for breakfast the next morning… She was so cute playing with it all (it’s super easy to use) and loved being in charge of our bed-time movie after a busy day of fun and lots of walking. Although the rooms are quite small, we really didn’t mind or need any extra space at all. The super king size bed and a huge bathroom / shower are really everything that travellers need, right? The little table, bubble chair, a book shelf and a huge drawer under the bed were a bonus. That bed though… like a cloud.
BREAKFAST AT citizenM
We didn’t want to get out of the bed the following morning. The only way I could wake Sasha is up is by asking her to “help me” with the room lights and some music, which she kept changing while I was in the shower. Kids…
One of the most amazing things about citizenM is that they don’t have a dedicated “canteen” or restaurant area for breakfast. You just get your favourite food and sit wherever you want in the lounge at a table or even on the sofa if you’re only having a cuppa. There’s plenty of choice for all kinds of travellers including vegetarian, vegan and those with a sweet tooth like us that morning. Plenty of freshly-baked pastries, croissants, yogurt, cereals, eggs, beans, fruit, sausages and Sasha’s favourite Nutella and Pan au Chocolat. The staff are the to assist as usual and make amazing coffee and tea too. Again, we didn’t want to leave the lounge either after breakfast, but were dying to hang-out in the Top Floor Bar before checking-out as I’ve heard the views were to die for. They were, and so was the interior decor… Scroll down.
citizenM TOWER BRIDGE TOP FLOOR BAR
We had an hour before our check-out at 11am and it was the most perfect hour to end our stay at the hotel. As soon as we walked in to the top floor bar, we knew we’d be up there for a while. The views were to die for and I couldn’t stop taking pictures of everything and I don’t think you’ll blame me? Even Sasha picked up my camera and recorded a little vlog (I know!) the place was that gorgeous. Have a look…
And that was it… The most perfect girly staycation in London in the most perfect hotel for it. Super handy with the underground station next door and lots of museums in the area as well. Sasha said that we are DEFINITELY staying in citizenM again and I’ll second that. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our girly staycation extra special. We will always remember it!
PS! Can we just applaud Sasha for taking such amazing pictures?!! x
