GIN 71 MERCHANT CITY
There’s been a lot of fun content about Glasgow for you lately and more to come, which I hope you’re enjoying? Glasgow is such a great city with so much to do and I hope you’re entertained by my little city adventures with me on the hunt for the best restaurants, cafes and bars. You know I’m a fan of Gin 71 as you’ll have seen me talk about their Gin Cocktails in this video and you can imagine how excited I was when I was invited back to their other restaurant in Merchant City to sample their 7 course Gin-infused taster menu. Yes, you heard it right – 7 courses and boy was it goooood. You can view the clever menu here but warning, it’s dangerous if you’re hungry!
COCKTAIL & CANAPES
We were offered a delicious palette cleansing cocktail on arrival and our first course was a selection of gin breads and canapes. All were so tasty with my glass of their signature Gin Pear bellinni. Love how the little taster breads are actually baked in the shape of a loaf. Too cute.
GIN HEAVEN
The cucumber and Hendricks water (in shot glasses above) was a really lovely and light palette cleanser before we had a heavier dishes – pork and poussin. I’m not a big pork fan but Gin 71 might have converted me with their quirky twist on the braised pork belly. Served with truffle popcorn and Caourunn Gin & Apple puree I went to heaven and back. There was Gin in that heaven!
EXPERIENCE
I’ll let you in on a secret. My other half (who got the pleasure of sampling this taster menu with me) is not a fan of taster menus, but his opinion changed completely after trying Gin 71’s. I of course as a secret Gin lover and a sucker for new flavour discoveries and pairings adore the concept. We took our time and got to really enjoy each course, chat in-between and enjoy the intimacy of our own booth which I think also added to the whole evening. We were there for over 2 hours if I remember right (gin!) and we both noticed that it was lovely to spend a bit longer in a restaurant than usual and be really looked after like that. The staff were fantastic and knew the menu inside-out which is a biggie. Everyone at Gin 71 took extra care of our dietary requirements and talked us through various gins and cocktails we could try. They’ve even designed special Gin and Wine pairings to go with their taster menus, which means you don’t really need to order anything else all night as the food and drinks will just keep on coming. Heaven…
To finish off our perfect meal we both got Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate served in a cute little tea (or gin) cup. No space for my usual Soy latte after that so a nice strong Espresso gave me enough energy to walk out of the restaurant to our car.
Absolutely delicious, unique, clever and exciting. I’d say it’s the best way to really impress a date, mum and a close friend one evening. Such a treat, thank you Gin 71.
WHAT I WORE:
Can I suggest wearing a baggy top when you visit Gin 71 for food? Stretchy jeans or trousers might also come in handy. This lace black top seems to be new favourite “party piece” and with a girls’ night out in a couple of weeks coming up I think I’ll end up wearing it again. So much for a trend setter or a fashion blogger huh? Who cares, it’s pretty. And practical…
