This year couldn’t have started any better…
Do you remember I teased you about that perfect day I got to enjoy last Tuesday? This was the “Me Time” I was talking about, and boy do I feel relaxed all over again writing about it – please take me back to Blythswood Spa now! The most blissful morning spent in the most luxurious spa in Scotland without any phone signal, just what the doctor ordered…

When it comes to festivities, I always “think” that I keep it quite cool and don’t really get stressed, but after spending a full morning in the spa without any phone access, I proved myself wrong. I also realised that I didn’t really have any time off (I manage Social Media for businesses), apart from one full day spent in my bed due to illness, and even then I still worked – darn you smartphones! But I couldn’t get the “6th of January date” out of my head for weeks, so instead of just going for the soothing warming ISHGA hot stone massage alone, I decided to spend a couple of hours in the thermal suite before my hour long treatment. The built up stress and tension over Christmas needed to be shaken off, so I could really relax during my Ishga massage. And just like so, me perfect day began from the moment I walked into the Spa reception (last pic).

First things first, I change myself into my favourite Triangl swimwear in the beautiful spa changing rooms, slide my feet into complimentary slippers, then wrap myself in an also complimentary cozy robe and head straight in to the thermal suite for an unforgettable post-Christmas spa experience… I started off with Laconium room, which is not too hot and too cold – it was the perfect atmosphere to gently warm up my body for the dry air hot sauna. My father built an amazing sauna at my parents’, so it’s an experience I’m familiar with… plus I’m Russian… although “cooling off” after the hot room in Blythswood has never quite been like it before, as I made use of the spa’s ice fountain and rubbed myself (ok, maybe just arms) with ice flakes. Russians just roll around in the snow, but you already know that, don’t you? Between sauna, steam rooms and ice fountain, I had a few dips in the Hydro and Vitality pool with a few “shots” of the hydrotherapy body jets, which actually really helped to release more tension on my shoulders…

Two hours later…

It was then time for my ISHGA hot stone massage in the most gorgeous treatment room ever. I’ve previously heard so much about Ishga, the organic Scottish seaweed brand created on the Isle of Lewis, so couldn’t wait to have it all over my body! The most luxurious, relaxing scents of lemon peel, lavender, cucumber, jojoba, aloe vera and other mineral organic ingredients soothing, nourishing and protecting my skin all at once – I was in heaven! Read more about Ishga here & here. If you’ve never had a stone massage, you don’t know what you’re missing… It’s quite a spiritual experience actually, as well as super relaxing. The heated smooth stones are placed along the shakra’s to open the energy’s pathways and are gently used to massage out the tension, aches and pains at a deeper level with those fragrant Ishga oils – picture me melting (with a big smile) and falling asleep…

After my massage I was shown to another relaxation room to “drift off”, where I could lie down and enjoy some lovely complimentary herbal tea, water and fruit… I wish I had a few more hours…

If you’re like me, and your usual “Me Time” is either a bubble bath or a rare 20 minutes with a magazine, then you and I girlfriend, have some Blythswood thermal spa adventures to schedule into our diaries this year! I say about 6 of those would be fair…

We all need me time…

Thank yous Blythswood Hotel, for creating such wonderful facilities with so much detail and thought put into every single step of the luxurious spa experience. That complimentary bottle of water in my locker, that hair dryer and cotton buds in the changing rooms, and that much needed warming herbal tea to top it all of after my treatment – it was like a dream!

Big Love
