I work in the industry of creatives and today’s technology often makes me think how creative we all really are. We all pretty much use the same apps on our phones, some of us don’t even use actual desktop computers to “create” and it’s all making me wonder whether we’re in some way a “little rusty” when it comes to originality. Many girls are using the same colour templates and are even selling presets so that others’ content looks similar to theirs? I too fall in to the trap of “trends” and wanted to jump on the bandwagon of the IGTV sped up styling videos. I think they’re brilliant, but at the same time think I could have come up with something a little different. Was I lazy? Was I worried it wouldn’t do as good? This leads me to another question. Are we as mass creators are scared about originality? Are we chasing popularity instead of less-popular original content? It’s a bit of a conundrum, because we all preach how much we love different and unusual art / content, but when it comes to creating it we seem to be a little scared. To be fair this is just a recent observation and well under researched – just basing my thoughts on what I see daily on my feed. Perhaps it’s time to change things up for me? Get inspiration elsewhere other than fellow creators? Spend a little time thinking about new ideas? They say every picture’s already been taken. Do you believe that?
